Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What places are visited in the city tour of Medellin?
The Pueblito Paisa at Cerro Nutibara, Plaza Botero where the sculptures of the Medellin artist Fernando Botero are located, Parques del Rio, Parque de los Pies Descalzos, the metro and the metrocable. Some city tours also include Comuna 13.
When is the city tour Medellin and what are the best times?
Shared city tours have defined starting times. They start at 9:30 a.m. in the morning and at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon.
If you take a private city tour, you can define the starting time. It is best to be able to finish the city tour before 6:00 pm. Take into account the duration of the tour you choose to decide the starting time.
Now, taking into account the city’s peak traffic hours, a very good range to start a city tour is between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
What are the pick-up locations or meeting points?
The private city tour includes pick up from your accommodation (or the place you indicate), within the urban area of the city.
In the shared city tour, you must go to El Poblado Park, which is the meeting point to start the tour.
How long does a city tour in Medellin last?
On average, a city tour in Medellín lasts approximately 6 hours. The shortest plans are 4 hours, while the longest plan lasts 8 hours. The durations change from one plan to another because each program has a different itinerary. Some city tours also include a visit to Comuna 13 and in these cases have a duration of between 6 and 8 hours.
How long is the average walking time in a Medellín city tour?
The walking time is approximately 2 hours. Remember that there are different versions of the city tour and, therefore, in each tour this time may vary.
Can I add other places to the Medellin city tour itinerary?
There are several city tour options. You will find private plans (where the guide and vehicle provide a service exclusively for your group) and shared (with other passengers).
One advantage of taking a private service is that you can customize it. For example, you can change places to visit or add others of your interest. In this case, you must contact the agency and inform them how you wish to develop your itinerary. Based on this information, the agency will indicate the duration, price and other characteristics of your customized service.
Now, in shared tours it is not possible to make changes to the itinerary.
Does the itinerary have to be followed in strict order?
It is not necessary to follow a strict order for the tour.
In private tours, you can decide to start with a visit to the Plaza de las Esculturas or the Pueblito Paisa or any other of the sites on the itinerary.
On the other hand, in shared tours the itinerary is usually done in a fixed order. It will be the staff in charge who will decide the order in which the activity will take place.
It is very helpful to take into account weather or traffic circumstances to decide the order of the tour itinerary and make the experience more convenient and enjoyable for the tourist.
Does the Medellin city tour include lunch?
No, lunch is not included in any case, neither in the private nor in the shared service.
In the case of private tours, some have a dedicated time in the itinerary for you to make a lunch stop. However, if you take a private tour that does not have time in the itinerary dedicated to lunch, you can request to modify the itinerary to dedicate a space for lunch. In both cases we will advise you on the restaurants along the way that best suit your interests. Keep in mind that each tour program has an established maximum duration.
In shared tours it is not possible to dedicate time to stop for lunch within the city tour. In this case, it is best to take advantage of the stop at one of the tourist sites to eat something light.
Is it possible to do the Medellín city tour if it is raining?
Yes. In any case, whether it is a private or shared tour, the activity can be carried out in moderate rainy weather conditions.
It is up to you to decide if you want to walk in the rain at the stops. However, keep in mind that if you take a private tour, the service has the flexibility to wait for the rain to pass so you can enjoy the places to visit, while in shared tours each stop has a time limit and, if it is raining, the visit to the place will end when the time limit is over, no matter if you were able to walk it or not.
On the other hand, on some occasions in our city torrential rains may block vehicular traffic, because some roads are flooded. If this happens, it may be necessary to suspend the tour, whether it is private or shared.
Do children have to pay for a Medellín city tour?
This depends on the age of the child.
For private tours, we consider whether the child will enjoy the content of the activity and whether his/her participation in the tour would imply the need to use a larger vehicle. Contact the customer service line to discuss your specific case and check if a fee will be charged for the child’s participation.
On shared tours, all children 3 years of age and older must pay the adult rate. If they are under three years of age, they must pay a reduced rate, corresponding to travel insurance and taxes.
Could you pick me up directly at the airport for the city tour and would this have any additional cost?
Yes. In any case, if the city tour is private or shared, you can request airport pick-up and the transfer service from the airport to the city has an additional fee that varies according to the number of passengers in your group and the volume of their luggage.
Keep in mind that shared city tours have a fixed start time, so if you have any mishap (such as a flight delay or delays in immigration procedures, baggage claim or others upon arrival) you will lose the tour, without the possibility of receiving a refund or money back. On the other hand, if you request a private city tour with the additional airport pick-up service, the city tour will start the moment you are available, regardless of any delay in your arrival. Airport transfer hiring policies apply.
Is the Medellin city tour accessible for people who use wheelchairs or other technical aids such as walkers, crutches or canes?
Places such as Plaza Botero and the Pueblito Paisa are fully accessible for people with mobility difficulties.
In the case of the subway, it also has an excellent level of accessibility, with elevators specially designed for people with reduced mobility. However, if there are crowds of users (which is always the case during rush hour), it is probably not possible for a person using technical aids to use this means of transport.
Access to the tourist area of Comuna 13 has a very steep slope, narrow and very crowded sidewalks, and several flights of escalators, so it is quite difficult for a person in a wheelchair to get around. It is more likely that people with walkers, canes or crutches will be able to get around on their own in this area of Comuna 13, but this will depend on the physical conditions of each person.
In the private tours, our guide will be willing to help passengers who require support to move around these places, however, it is not possible to guarantee that the guide’s collaboration will be sufficient to allow the tourist to make this tour.
If you take a private city tour, you can inform your advisor in advance about the technical aids used by any passengers in your group and he/she can tell you if a larger vehicle is required or have certain considerations regarding the itinerary. In certain cases, these changes may involve a fare increase. Informing you about these aspects in advance allows us to provide you with the best possible service.
If you take a shared city tour, the vehicle conditions are conventional and sufficient to provide a good service in general, but they do not offer accessibility for users with reduced mobility.
Does the vehicle have a special seat for babies?
If you take a private city tour, we can adapt the vehicle with a special seat for your baby. Please let us know in advance if you require this service. In some cases, this request may involve the need to assign a larger vehicle and this may mean an increase in the fee.
If you take a shared city tour, transportation is in a tourist bus without a baby seat. In this case, the baby must be seated on the lap of a responsible adult.
Is it possible to take a baby carriage on a Medellín city tour?
If you take a private city tour, you must inform us in advance if you require the vehicle to have enough space to store a baby carriage in the trunk. In some cases, this request may involve the need to assign a larger vehicle and this may mean an increase in the fee.
If you take a shared city tour, it will take place in a tourist bus. Please check in advance with the customer service line if the bus assigned to the date you will be taking the tour has enough space in the trunk to carry a baby carriage.
