Presentation

The histories of Comuna 13 and Pablo Escobar are two separate stories whose only commonality is that both were marked by violence that left its mark on Medellín and Colombia. In the years we have spent studying and exploring our city, we have found no direct connection between Escobar’s criminal life and the events in Comuna 13. Only now, in recent years, following the tourism boom in our city, have narratives emerged claiming that Escobar had hideouts and direct collaborators in Comuna 13. These stories take the form of legends, as we have found no historical record to substantiate them. Furthermore, it is very curious that this was never mentioned during the narco-war, but only now, more than 30 years after Escobar’s death, which suggests to us that these are stories invented solely to attract an unsuspecting public and sell them tourist services based on a sensational, but without any basis.

We feel a moral obligation to clarify these differences, out of respect for the community of Comuna 13 (especially the victims of violence there) and for our country as a whole, which has the right to have its history reported accurately; and so that tourism can serve to preserve historical memory as faithfully as possible, rather than distorting it.

On this tour, over the course of about 5 hours, we’ll share a professional and verified account of the key milestones in the history of the Medellín Cartel and Comuna 13.

This tour must be done in a vehicle, as it visits different parts of the city that are separated by several kilometers. You will have the opportunity to walk through the places where stops are made.
